NDIS
We are a registered NDIS provider for our GG Blocks.
GG Blocks are adaptable furniture that can be used for many purposes in your home.
I, Heather, invented GG Blocks as I needed adaptable tools in my own home.
I needed a large, non-slip and very low to the ground type of step/ or toilet training step to help with early stages of potty training a disabled child. Many children struggle with small steps and our Occupational Therapist recommended the use of a step that is at least 600mm wide x 400mm deep and high enough (and have adjustable heights) to have their feet elevated whilst sitting (please check with your own OT for what would be suitable and safe for your child/disabled person).
I couldn't find anything on the market that I could also pick up and easily push out of the way for my elderly and disabled grandparent, and fit in with a disability chair fitted to the toilet. So, I ended up coming up with my own solution to our problem.
Our 12 x 6 flat GG block with caps was my solution to this problem. I used it until my kids felt secure and safe, as our OT said they needed to be able to stand on it, turn a full circle and undress while still standing on it (and feel safe while doing so); that meant it had to be sturdy but soft (not cold or harsh - to not trigger SPD) and safe and large enough to fit the size of my ever growing children. Most people will say they have the local Men's Shed make something for them, but our local one only delt in wood, and that was too heavy for us to move, and wasn't compatible with other family members and their disabilities.
We also needed adaptable furniture for other uses, like a chair that they could change sizes and not fall apart, a dark den that could fit one or two children, depending on their mood, they needed something to hit and play with that would help with 'heavy work' and physical proprioception skills as well as a regulation tool. They also needed to stretch their imaginations to build things, but were frustrated by the tools on the market that fell apart. They loved Lego, but didn't have the fine motor skills to do "Lego Therapy", but still wanted to do it - so I invented a bigger, softer, safer version that my kids love, and I hope you will too.
GG Blocks can help with fine and gross motor skills, mathematics (counting, spatial awareness and planning/gridding), sharing and turn taking, "Lego Therapy" on a larger scale, imagination and pretend play skills, and regulation. We use ours as a Dark Den when over stimulated, and as a jungle gym when needing movement and exercise, as a reading/calming couch, or as anything we need in the moment, eg; play pen, ball pit, wall to knock over, statue or helicopter, car or crocodile to ride in/on, a table to do homeschooling on - anything at all we can imagine. And when they are finished, we pack it away, as all the blocks fit together simply and easily, are light weight and can be packed in any formation you desire.
